Haunted Hayride to off to the side of Trick or Treat to the right half of the event grounds. The Midnight Falls General Store still offers a variety of souvenirs and goods for guests to take home. And that marks another highlight from this year's event--the food quality has noticeably improved, with a nice variety of savories and sweets across several different vendor stalls scattered across the Midnight Falls area.

The Ghosts of The Mortuary House
According to various sources, it was during this period that the funeral home began getting rid of a lot of its more fascinating additions from the mid-twentieth century. The 14,000 square foot property soon became way too much to oversee, and the days of eight funerals at once slowly came to an end. Before its infamous time as a funeral home, The Mortuary House was built in 1872 by Irish immigrants Mary Slattery and her husband, John (whose last name is thought to have been Devonshire), who had purchased the property from Mrs. Ina M. Hoyle. At the time of its construction, Mary Slattery had hopes of 4800 Canal Street being a family home for the generations. Trick or Treat

As one of Louisiana’s most popular haunted house attractions, The Mortuary has found itself on more than a few national Best Haunted House Attractions lists, including on those compiled by The Travel Channel and the Discovery Channel. Throngs of people wait for their chance to go through the Greek Revival mansion. Creepyworld Haunted Screampark is America's biggest haunted attraction with over 13 attractions including a haunted hayride. Hauntworld rates the top 13 best and scariest haunted houses in America. Hauntworld rates and reviews the scariest, best, longest, haunted houses and Halloween Attractions in America 2018.

The overall plan was to shed the property of its funeral home additives and covert it into an opulent day spa. But in the midst of all of the construction, all the demolition—Neil Corporation pulled out of the project, and out of 4800 Canal Street, leaving the Greek Revival to be a literal shell of its former self. But enough about the fancy “amenities” because PJ McMahon’s and Sons was also far advanced when it came to the funeral services. The Mansion was also equipped with an autopsy room, an embalming room, an on-site crematorium, “cold storage for the dead,” (perhaps a morgue?), a casket and flowers store, and oh, yes, a place for the casket themselves. Lafontear and Klein kept the property until 1923, before selling it to Notary E. Howard McCaleb. From there, in 1928, McCaleb admitted that he’d purchased the property on behalf of PJ McMahon, and it was at that time that 4800 Canal was converted into a funeral home.
Escape Rooms
And, apparently, there are at least 5,000 haunted attractions in the United States alone. As for the reason why people love getting their pants scared right off them? “From a psychological point of view,” the articles reads, “the standard features of haunted houses trigger feelings of dread because they push buttons in our brains that evolved long before houses even existed. These alarm buttons warn us of potential danger and motivate us to proceed with caution."
In addition, motion effects that we recognized from prior years were not functioning through much of the hayride, making this experience more static and less engaging than prior years. On the side of improvements, the quantity of scareactors and that energy level seemed to be reduced compared to our experiences last year. Though there were ebbs and flows (again, the axe-wielding fiend at the start of the maze was fantastic), there were also noticeable lulls in places like the graveyard and the creepy giant doll room. Here too, we also noticed that animatronics and motion scares that were part of previous years' maze did not seem to be operating this time around. A guest who hadn't visited in a few years might not notice, but as fans of the event and regular attendees, we couldn't help but observe these attributes.

Every year, the Mortuary Krewe creates a new theme, and this year The Mortuary Haunted House 2021 presents Inferno and the haunted house opens on October 8, 2021. Encounter free-roaming monsters, terrifying mazes—spanning themes like a twisted carnival and an alien-inhabited space station—a “boo-fet” dinner and all sorts of other haunted houses and attractions at the OC theme park. Its past installments have found attendees stealthing their way through a Victorian home and embarking on a Blade Runner-esque bounty hunt. You can also float between rooms of the mansion, and even get a peek behind the scenes with a VIP ticket.
The citizens--a diverse band of different and fascinating characters--love interacting with guests and walk a well-balanced line between creepiness and friendliness that make the guest experience richer and more enjoyable. Midnight Falls is almost a dark version of Disneyland in that the folks there might be a little horrid and disturbing looking, but they retain their own charm and enjoyable characteristics that make interacting with them a lot of fun. What isn't the same compared to our experience last year is the energy level and functionality of several of the animatronic and motion-triggered effects. We never intend to criticize haunt talent, because their work is difficult, grueling, often thankless, and risky because of the unpredictability of guest reactions and the general annoyance of a select few asshole guests. However, through two rounds of the Haunted Hayride, the talent seemed listless and more sparse than in many prior years. This wasn't universal--the hog monsters and cultish natives were persistent and haunting--but this observation was not limited either.
If you’re in the Santa Clarita area and are a fan of all things haunted, you may be familiar with The Darm Realm, Restless Souls Manor, and The Farm, all iconic home haunts in the area for several years in their own rights. The haunted Urban Death Maze is known for full nudity, impressive gore, intense audiovisual effects, fantastic performance, and cutting-edge theater. Spirits of the undead leftover from a gruesome past populate the century-and-a-half-old mansion turned haunted museum. You can fully explore the manor for as long as you can stand it before and after the show. The spirit of Halloween spreads across the village, and the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride accompanies a haunted house in the mortuary. Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group hosts a chilling series of vignettes.
Since opening in 2007, The Mortuary has been ranked as one of the best haunted houses, scaring hundreds of brave souls every fall. While it’s certainly an adrenaline-inducing experience, you may be surprised to learn that this haunted house is actually a haunted house. It’s been featured on several ghost hunting shows including the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures, and it’s quite possible you may just have a paranormal experience as you make your way through the Hollywood-level theatrics. Far from those kid-friendly rides through a pumpkin patch, this hayride unleashes all sorts of demons and bogeys on Griffith Park. Like so many pop culture horror experiences recently, this year’s Haunted Hayride once again rewinds the action to the mid-’80s in the ficticious town of Midnight Falls. According to one article from 2015, people will pay good money to get frightened.
Zoo parking lot that drops guests off near Spokes 'n' Stuff, which shortens the walk by half, but the shuttle only runs Fridays and Saturdays and Halloween night. Last year's relocation definitely brought on a lot of discussions about whether this was better or worse. For the event, it provided a larger, flatter, easier to set up space to fit its very tight load-in period. For guests, the prolonged walk to the entrance and the widespread territory making wayfinding confusing to some guests led to understandable gripes. But our experience last year was very positive--our best experience ever at this event--and we left in high spirits after enjoying detailed, high-energy haunted attractions and the more open, less packed-feeling environment. This does speak to the "luck of the draw" nature of haunted house mazes.
In his early 20s, short-form writing like poems came easily to him but he struggled with longer work. He published his first book, a collection of poems titled “White Spaces,” in 1980, and followed it up with his first memoir in 1982, “The Invention of Solitude,” which reflected on his father’s death. He believed that a good day of work could produce one typed page — “two pages is great, three is a miracle” that happens four times a year. Referred to as “the dean of American postmodernists” and “the most meta of American meta-fictional writers,” Auster’s body of work boasted more than 30 books since he began publishing in the 1970s. He crafted fiction that hinged on reality but also challenged the definition of it. His breakthrough 1985 novel, “City of Glass,” combined hard-boiled detective fiction with existential inquiry and featured a character called Paul Auster.
Perhaps it was a sort of "break" year after three consecutive seasons of a lot of changes for the Hayride team, but this year's L.A. Although the event is still a notable improvement for anyone who hasn't been since the Midnight Falls transition, 2022 felt like a dip in the overall long term improvement that the L.A. Knotts Spooky Farm is a spooky–not scary–event with haunted house attractions and a pumpkin patch for kids. Throughout the fall, the farm becomes an entirely transformed theme park with haunted mazes and attractions, unique and terrifying live performances, and 1000+ creatures waiting for you in the trees. The Mortuary Haunted House 2021 has just released the 2021 schedule and hours…..and if you are interested in going, I would get tickets now! A Season Pass is also available for $125 which allows for skipping the line and repeat VIP visits as many times as you want during the current haunted house year.
The historic, haunted Phillips Mansion (one of the year-round haunted houses in Los Angeles) is the perfect place to horrify thrill seekers. One of LA’s leaders in interactive horror theater, Delusion is noted as the most intense haunted house in LA, and not without reason. Dark Harvest is an interactive and fully immersive haunted house and haunted maze designed to terrify you out of your skin with a new theme each year. For the 2021 season, hours will be extended for this exciting new Haunted House Experience. If you’re interested in visiting The Mortuary House, please be aware that the “Haunted House Attraction” is only open during Halloween-time, from September to early November, and that it’s an Attraction and not a paranormal investigation. (As mentioned earlier, investigations and tours of the property are no longer offered).
His longest and most ambitious work of fiction was his 866-page novel “ ,” which was published in 2017 and was a finalist for the Booker Prize. Although not traditionally a writer of “doorstoppers,” Auster’s book told the story of Archie Ferguson, a character mirroring the author himself in a four-part narrative. It catalogs the ordinary existence of four parallel Fergusons in the post-World War II era in exhaustive detail, imagining each version’s shifting fate based on differing circumstances.
Hours will be extended for this exciting new Haunted House Experience. The Mortuary will open earlier that usual on weekdays and during the day on Saturdays and Sundays. Exact days and times are shown on the calendar and while purchasing tickets.
